When I wrote my “Open Letter to Tim Tebow” I warned him specficially to keep his religious beliefs out of the locker room and don’t be too preachy around other players.
Obviously he didn’t read the letter because here is a story from the Scouting Combine as told by ProFootballTalk that explains crystal clear why being Reverend Tim will not work in the NFL, here are the details:
At the Scouting Combine, the Wonderlic exam is administered to players in groups. The 12-minute test is preceded by some brief instructions and comments from the person administering the test.
Per a league source, after the person administering the test to Tebow’s group had finished, Tebow made a request that the players bow their heads in prayer before taking the 50-question exam.
Said one of the other players in response: “Shut the f–k up.” Others players in the room then laughed.
I want Tim Tebow to succeed, but it would be in his best interest if he wants to pray before a test he does it in private. If he is already being mocked by draft attendees with a far less pedigree than him. what do you think is going to happened if he tries to go Rev. Tim in an NFL locker room?
I know for a fact that a lot of potential NFL draftees resent the attention that Tebow is getting. This isn’t Tebow’s fault, but he definitely doesn’t shy away from it. There are many who are hoping he will fail and in the end he will be judged about what he does on the field. What he does off of it is his own business, but it is a fine line if he tries to mix both.
I do want to point out it was very childish of the player who yelled out “shut the f*ck up”. There is a much more professional way to handle that. He could have simply said that is something Tebow should have asked in private and not lump everyone in. No need to be a class clown about it. If you want respect treat people with respect.
*Off Topic*
We can not confirm or deny if the prayer/non-prayer had anything to do with Tebow’s Wonderlic score being lower than most of the other quarterbacks.
