Patriots Lock Up Rob Gronkowski With Six Year Deal

by Glenn Erby | Posted on Saturday, June 9th, 2012

After being selected in the 2nd round of the 2010 NFL Draft by the New England Patriots many pundits wondered what type of player Rob Gronkowski would be and how long a career he would have after suffering a severe back injury during his junior season at Arizona.

Gronkowski repaid the Patriots for taking that risk by having an ultra productive rookie season, and having one of the best seasons ever by a tight end in 2011.  Gronk broke the record for receiving touchdowns by a tight end with 18 and actually had more receiving touchdowns than the entire St. Louis Rams offensive unit.

Yesterday the New England Patriots repaid that production and then some by signing Gronkowski to largest contract ever for a tight end.

According to espn.com Gronkowski and the Patriots agreed to a six-year, $53 million contract extension.

The six-year deal includes $16.5 million guaranteed. There is a $10 million option — if exercised by the Patriots in 2015 — that would extend the deal through ’19.

At 23 it is a unprecedented extension for someone so young, but Gronkowski is an absolute matchup nightmare for any defensive unit in the NFL.

Regardless of what you think of Gronkowski and his antics with porn stars or outrageous dances, Rob Gronkowski is the TRUTH and nothing but the TRUTH.
