Now, to all who have seen Team USA demolish Nigeria last night, apparently that was a mistake.
“We didn’t play LeBron [James] and Kobe [Bryant] in the second half, and with Carmelo shooting like that, we benched him,” [coach Mike] Krzyzewski said. “We didn’t take any fast breaks in the fourth quarter, and we played all zone. You have to take a shot every 24 seconds, and the shots we took happened to be hit.”
Now lets play numbers with last nights win against Nigeria:
- Team USA shot 71% as a team
- Team USA beat Nigeria in the 4th quarter 37-11
- Team USA won by 83 points, an Olympic Record
- Team USA scored 156 points in a 40 minute game
- Carmelo Anthony had 37 points in 14 mins
- 29 three pointers, 10 by Melo
- Team USA had 41 assists, another Olympic record
Thats just SOME of the numbers put up by Team USA Basketball. If this is “easing” up, Coach K, I can only imagine when you let them boys go!
The sad part is people think that Team USA did this intentially.
“I take offense to this question because there’s no way in the world that our program in the United States sets out to humiliate anyone,” said the coach
Why would people think that we intend to humiliate other teams/countries? The goal in the Olympics is to prove you are THE BEST and to come home with the gold. So now because its evident we have some of the best players in the world we should be easy on our opponents?
Said Kobe Bryant, who had 16 points: “When you have guys individually on their respective teams get hot, it’s a big problem. When you have all of us on one team and we all get hot on the same night, it’s tough.”
Please, bring home that gold USA.
