The Dallas Mavericks made subtle roster moves in the off-season, but one they though would improve the team was the addition of guard O.J. Mayo.
Mayo was in a good groove while Mavericks star Dirk Nowitzki was out, but now with Dirk back, Mayo’s play has fallen off a bit.
ESPN Dallas is reporting that Nowitzki would like Mayo to regain his swagger, because right now it looks like he is lacking confidence.
“Juice gotta go back to playing the way he was when I was out,” Nowitzki said. “I don’t know what’s been going on lately. It looks like he doesn’t have the confidence.
“But we depend on him. He’s got the ability. He showed it early in the year. He’s gotta make plays for us down the stretch as long as I’m not all the way there.”
Nowitzki has only been back 2 games, so the duo has time, but there’s no real reason why Mayo can’t coexist with one of the more unselfish players in the NBA.
Unless Mayo is just hell-bent on being the star and focal point of the team. If that’s the case he should have signed with Charlotte or Toronto.
