When we reported a week ago that Mike Krzyzewski would not return as head coach of Team USA, speculation began to spread as to who exactly would be the best candidates to replace coach K. Now, according to Jason Lloyd of the Akron Beacon Journal, we have an idea of some potential candidates.
Boston Celtics head coach Doc Rivers, and San Antonio Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich are two of the most likeliest candidates to replace coach K as the head man of the USA roster.
It appears that Popovich has coveted the USA job for years now, and would be inclined to take the job if formerly offered.
Rivers is not to be dismissed though, as nearly every current player on the USA roster has great respect for the coach.
“Rivers is a strong candidate because of his reputation and the fact the league’s stars — and ultimately the Team USA roster — love him,” Lloyd writes in the article.
I think either of these two candidates would continues to lead Team USA in the right direction. With a combined 5 championship rings, winning is a priority to both.
