Let’s just add this injury to the long list of bizarre baseball injuries that just make one scratch their head.
Victor Martinez was a gone for the entire 2012 season with a torn ACL and it looks like he’s in danger of already missing a few games due to a freak injury involving a bat rack.
As reported by LarryBrownSports Martinez’s thumb was caught on a metal bolt on the team’s bat rack and cut himself to the point he required 8 stitches. He is now listed as day-to-day.
Hopefully Martinez won’t miss too much time, if any, he’s been dealing with frustrating injuries for quite some time. As for the injury itself, for baseball it’s pretty tame, not exactly a case of almost slicing an artery while separating hamburger patties, as was the case for Giants’ pitcher Jeremy Affeldt, but still bizarre nonetheless.
