The only difference between Paulie and Maidana is that Paulie has no power, but the game plan was the same. Pressure Broner with volume punching, because Broner can get hit and doesn’t throw a lot of punches.

It is the reason Paulie almost won a decision against Broner. If you consider Paulie and Maidana, Broner’s best competition to date, he hasn’t performed very well. Paulie as you can imagine had some choice words for Broner courtesy of Boxing Scene.

“This is boxing at a world class level. Broner had not been fighting that many world class fighters. When he did – he had trouble. Tonight he was fully exposed,” Malignaggi said.

“I give him credit for his toughness and hanging in there, but that headbutt in the eight round wasn’t that much. He was looking for a way out, he was looking to get Maidana DQ’d and I’m going to call him out on it.”

“This proves tonight that there is only one Floyd Mayweather. A lot of people were looking for the next Floyd Mayweather. People were looking to crown Broner when he beat a lot of laundrymat workers. You can’t anoint someone as the next Mayweather before he was crowned. There is one [Mayweather] and there will only be one.”

I think people who were comparing Broner to Mayweather were casual fans, who was just following a narrative and being lazy.

We will have to see how Broner responds to adversity now.
