It was obvious from the start there was no way Tony Romo was going to play against the Eagles. His health is the most important thing and hopefully this surgery doesn’t have any long term effects on him.
The Cowboys need him back strong for next year, their playoff hopes now rest on the arm of Kyle Orton.

Jason Garrett said Romo should be able to come home today. No timetable. Won’t get into the specifics. “We feel like it went well.”

Jason Garrett: “We anticipate surgery solving the issue he had in the game last Sunday.” Won’t say if he’ll be ready by camp

The fact that Orton has been able to practice fully all week with the the 1st team gives him a much better chance of succeeding than if he had to come in off the bench cold.
Of course the Cowboys would have a better chance with Romo, but I wouldn’t say they are doom just because Orton is starting. Stranger things have happened.
