Jameis Winston may want to seriously consider a major league baseball career at this rate. Jay Glazer of Fox Sports is reporting that the reigning Heisman Trophy winner’s stock is falling on draft boards around the NFL.
According to FOX Sports NFL Insider Jay Glazer, general managers are moving Winston down their potential draft boards — or off them completely. Additionally, due to possible rule changes involving sanctions against teams, franchises that employ players with off-field issues could have draft picks taken away, further diminishing the prospects for rookies-to-be like Winston.
Glazer’s report comes in the wake of Friday’s exclusive report by FOX Sports that revealed a cover-up by the university and local police. Florida State officials late on Friday decided to bypass the normal process for conducting a student-code-of-conduct investigation in Winston’s case and will send the case to an independent arbiter.
It will be interesting to see how teams handle Winston in lieu of the NFL’s dramatically changing landscape. Whether he’s drafted in the first, second or fourth round, Jameis Winston has the potential to be better than half the guys starting on NFL rosters right now.
He might be sliding on draft boards, but some general manager in search of the next great passer is going to roll the dice on the immature star.
