Everyone remembers the happenings of July 4th 2015 and Giants defensive lineman Jason Pierre-Paul. For the few of you that don’t, this is a day Pierre-Paul will never forget. While enjoying his Independence Day celebration, Pierre-Paul almost loss his hand to a freak accident with explosives. Pierre-Paul was lucky things didn’t end as bad as they could have as shown by him needing multiple operations but being able to return go the field.
JJP’s health was unknown for a short period of time after the accident until his medical records were leaked. ESPN’s Adam Schefter was the first to show his medical record which has received backlash from JJP and his camp. JJP has filed a lawsuit against Adam Schefter and according to ProFootballTalk.com, the case is headed to court.
The case hearing is set for August 25 with the defendants’ wanting to have the case dismissed and the motion for sanctions against JPP. ESPN and Schefter feel they did nothing wrong. They feel that medical privacy laws protect not the records themselves but the information contained in them which in their eyes removes them from any wrong doing.
I’m no judge but to me having his records posted publicly because someone leaked them just seems wrong. Yes, it is Schefter’s job to cover all breaking news in sports but this one just seems wrong.
