With a negotiations period filled with highs and lows now in their respective rear view mirrors, tickets for the November 19th showdown between light heavyweights Andre Ward and Sergey Kovalev go on sale Friday, Sept. 2 at 11:00 a.m. PT.
When the anticipated match-up between the ‘Krusher’ and the ‘SOG’ was first announced last spring, it appeared that bout was full steam with little to no complications. Both parties agreed to meet after fighting and winning interim opponents and both parties agreed to meet November 19th. What’s unclear is the agreement to fight at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Kathy Duva of Main Events, Kovalev’s promoter, said the parties had a verbal agreement to meet there while Roc Nation Sports never commented publicly on the fight location.
“The contract has been signed between Kovalev vs Ward. They both have one more fight before they meet, Sergey will fight [Isaac] Chilemba on July 11, not sure when and where Andre will fight,” he said.
“If everything will go as planned they should meet November 19.”
On the Tuesday following Ward’s defeat of Alexander Brand in Oakland, a press conference was held in Los Angeles presumably to formerly announce the super fight and provide the ticket details. Instead Kathy Duva and Sergey Kovalev appeared singularly and expressed frustration at Roc Nation Sports and Ward for not finalizing the agreement to stage the event at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas despite having a verbal agreement. Roc Nation Sports declined to comment and Ward reportedly notified Main Events prior to the press conference he would not attend.
Ultimately both sides were able to work out the logistical differences and the fight is now official. Great for boxing fans.
