The saying goes a grand jury can indict a ham sandwich, but it is hard to indict someone when there is no evidence than any type of assault occurred.
Surveillance video and witnesses backed up Ex-Ohio State and current Raiders CB Gareon Conley claim that no rape occurred in an Ohio hotel room and that the accuser was just upset that she was kicked out of room.
The cops did their due diligence, but there just was no evidence supporting the accuser’s claim and no charges will be brought against Conley.
Gareon Conley will not face charges in an April hotel encounter that ended with a 23-year-old woman accusing him of raping her.
A Cuyahoga County grand jury on Monday voted not to charge the rookie Oakland Raider and former Ohio State University standout defensive back after hearing a summary of the evidence from Cleveland police and Cuyahoga County prosecutors.
The woman told police that she was with a group of friends on April 8 and met Conley in the elevator, according to a police report. She decided to go back to his room instead of to her friends’ room, the report says.
Another couple in the room started having sex and Conley asked her to join, according to the report. The woman said she refused and asked instead to watch the other couple, when Conley ripped her clothes off and attacked her in the bathroom, the report says.
She said Conley then kicked her out of the room.
The woman called police about 3:50 a.m. Officers went to the room and found the two men asleep in the room. The men, who described themselves as friends of Conley’s, said no sexual contact took place.
Conley’s lawyer said surveillance footage from Barley House in downtown Cleveland showed the two met at the restaurant and walked back to the hotel together.
She lied to the police from the beginning and didn’t cooperate with the case. It is unfortunate his reputation was dragged through the mud and he lost potentially millions of dollars because of it.
She won’t be charged for making false accusation.
