It doesn’t appear things are getting better for ex-NBA player Delonte West.
There was a time after a meeting with Mark Cuban that things looked like they were turning around for him, but he has slipped back into addiction and now has been arrested.
Delonte West has been arrested again, TMZ Sports has learned.
According to the Fairfax County Police Dept. in Virginia, officers were called to a local parking lot at around 5:53 PM on Oct. 15 after they say witnesses saw the former NBA player trespassing in a vehicle.
Cops say when they arrived on scene, they found West near the parking lot … but claim he became combative when they attempted to slap cuffs on him.
According to an FCPD spokesperson, West took off running … but was tracked down a short distance away. He was eventually taken into custody.
Cops say West was ultimately booked on four criminal charges over the incident — vehicle trespassing, entering a vehicle, fleeing from law enforcement and drunk in public. Jail records show he was released from custody on Oct. 16.
When asked about West a few weeks ago, Cuban said you couldn’t help anyone who doesn’t want to help themselves.
The Dallas Mavericks owner told TMZ Sports out in NYC this week that he’s been keeping in contact with his former player … and, sadly, he said West is continuing to fight to get healthy.
“It’s a struggle for him,” Cuban said. “I mean, addiction is awful. And mental illness is awful. He’s at the point in his life where he’s got to want to be helped.”
West has battled substance abuse issues in his past — and has been spotted panhandling in the streets several times in the last few years.
But, back in 2020, Cuban helped him check into a rehab facility. And, this past June, West landed a flooring gig — and appeared to be getting back on his feet.
Cuban, though, said West still has a long way to go.
“You know, he’s got to want to help himself first,” Mark said. “I’ve tried. I know it’s tough on him, but I wish him nothing but the best.”
West played for four franchises during his 8-year NBA career … including Cuban’s Mavs from 2011-2012. He played his last pro basketball game with the Mavericks’ G-League team, the Texas Legends, in 2015.
