There is still only one Ricky Hatton, but he is far removed from his prime. It is amazing Hatton has battled depression, drug and alcohol abuse looked decent against a very solid opponent. I was surprised at how well he looked after the three and half year layoff.
In retrospect he should have taken a tune up fight. Hatton started off fast, but the wear and tear on his body started to show around the middle rounds. It was a close fight that all the judges had in favor of Hatton, but he was slowing down and it looked like we were headed for a draw or a split decision.
That is when Senchenko hit Hatton with a beautiful left hook to the body. Hatton crumbled to the ground and was unable to beat the count.
After the fight he was highly emotional as you could imagine. He stated he was going to take some time to think about his next move, but realized quickly he just doesn’t have it anymore.
Ricky Hatton has just announced his retirement: “I don’t have it anymore. That’s the end of Ricky Hatton.”
