In “What in the Blue Hell” news, the Seattle Seahawks have released LenDale White today, less than five weeks after trading for the ex-Titans running back during this year’s Draft. Coincidentally, White is also reportedly facing a four-game suspension for violation of the NFL’s substance abuse policy… Damn.
Seattle Post reports:
The Seahawks gave up on White after he had only limited chances to display his work ethic — and months before he was even going to put on full pads. He participated in just one minicamp and a handful of organized team activities on the practice field before the team waived him.
“It became apparent at this time that LenDale was not ready to be a member of the Seattle Seahawks,” team general manager John Schneider said in a statement. “It just did not appear to be the right fit at this point in our program. We wish LenDale all the best with his future.”
Although I assume that the Seahawks knew about the pending suspension on White when he was released, various reports say that this was not the reason why he was told to kick rocks.
The NFL Network Reports:
Despite his weight loss, there were still serious questions about his work ethic. White reportedly failed a drug test at the Combine four years ago, so this would be his second infraction.
This is actually very surprising to me, as I really had high hopes for White’s fresh start in Seattle with the coach who was an integral piece of his success as a Trojan (as well as Reggie Bush). At the same time, LenDale’s bad attitude has been no secret, and after a while teams are not going to deal with that, especially in the rebuilding phase. I just don’t understand why the Seahawks wouldn’t hold onto White; in the event that a back gets injured somewhere else, at least you could get a pick back for him.
All in all, contrary to reports, I do think that White’s release was due to the drug suspension, but that’s just my opinion. I will say this; if linebacker Leroy Hill gets handed a suspension related to his drug arrest and a release from the Seahawks follows, that should answer all speculation about the Seahawks new no-nonsense attitude, which I believe is the case…mark my words.
