Rumors are running rampant of a Randy Moss to Minnesota Vikings trade.
I would be surprised (not shocked) if it happened, because while Moss didn’t have a catch for the first time in his Patriots career, the Pats without Moss aren’t as good. This isn’t addition by subtraction. This is subtraction by subtraction.
Without Moss teams will bring a safety closer to the line of scrimmage and the room Wes Welker and Brandon Tate have been receiving will shrink considerably.
Profootballtalk has the details:
Rumor quickly became reality on Tuesday night, with FOX’s Jay Glazer reporting that the Patriots are close to shipping receiver Randy Moss back to the Vikings.
Now, the Minnesota and Boston media are pursuing the story like Homer chasing a chocolate-filled Uter with a wet towel.
Ian Rapoport of the Boston Herald reports that the Patriots are saying “there is no trade.” In this regard, conjugation could be critical. They’re not saying “there will be no trade.” They’re only saying “there is no trade.” And Glazer hasn’t reported that there “is” a trade.
Rapoport also reports that he’s told a trade is not “done,” but he confirms that a trade is being discussed.
The allege hold up is that the Vikings want Moss to sign a contract extension, but Moss to my understand hasn’t had any discussions with the Vikings.
Once again this all sounds like a Red Herring to me.
Logically it doesn’t make any sense for the Patriots. Makes a ton of sense for the Vikings unless they break the bank for an extension. We will see, my guess is that it doesn’t happen, but I have been wrong before.
