Rumor: Carmelo Anthony To The Los Angeles Lakers

Remember when I told you that everyone has “sources” and not to believe anyone including me in regards to players getting traded or signing with teams.

This would fall under that category.

I don’t believe this, but I have to admit it is the third time I have heard this rumor this week. Former Laker Tony Gaffney is claiming via his Facebook page he has inside information about Melo interesting in going to LA (read message below).

Tony Gaffney is claiming on his facebook that Carmelo Anthony wants to go to the Lakers and that the rumored deal would revolve around Lamar Odom and picks. Gaffney who is currently playing in Turkey is saying that he has “plenty” of sources.

If you are wondering who in the blue hell is Tony Gaffney (I admit I had no clue who he was either). Here is are a few more details.

After going undrafted, Tony joined the 2009 Lakers Las Vegas Summer League team. Thanks to his strong play in Las Vegas, Tony was invited to the 2009-10 Los Angeles Lakers training camp. He was the final player waived (on October 25, 2009) to reach the opening day roster.

Gaffney then played for the Hapoel Gilboa Galil Elyon club in Israel, but, after injuring his foot, returned to the United States for treatment.

On April 13, 2010, Tony Gaffney signed a contract with the Boston Celtics for the rest of the regular season and playoffs, and a non-guaranteed contract for the 2010-2011 season. Both have an equal chance of ever playing. Gaffney was waived on October 1, 2010.

In October 2010 he signed with Türk Telekom B.K. in Turkey.

Turkey just signing everybody, don’t tell Kim Kardashian.

The only reason I giving this particular rumor any credence is because Melo’s wife LaLa wants to be in a big market and if you can’t go to New York, LA is the next best thing.

How this would work with salaries and contract extensions I have no clue and don’t feel there is a reason to even go deeper into because to be honest the chances of this happening are slim to none.

But then again I thought Lebron would never go share the spotlight in Miami with D Wade and we see how that turned out.
