People have tried to justify Kobe Bryant’s ridiculous $100k fine by using this rationale and I am paraphrasing.
“It doesn’t matter the context of what he said or who he said it to. The fact he used a “Gay Slur” in any way is offensive to the Gay Community and he needed to be punished harshly.”
Under that premise any NBA player who utters a “slur” should be fine, since the context doesn’t matter?
Here is what David Stern had to say:
“Kobe and everyone associated with the NBA know that insensitive or derogatory comments are not acceptable and have no place in our game or society”
I already exposed Stern once because I assume insensitive comments are cool if you are Kenyon Martin since he was fined zero dollars for calling Mark Cuban a “F*ckin Fagott” and a Bitch.
Did I mention that Stern hates Mark Cuban?
But the rationale for that went something like this.
“Well Rob, Kenyon Martin isn’t Kobe Bryant, Kobe is held to higher standard because he is one of the faces of the NBA.”
Even though that makes no logical sense and just proves the hypocrisy, what is Stern and the NBA excuse for not punishing Kevin Garnett?
Kevin Garnett is one of the most popular players in the world and plays for one of its most storied franchise.
I went to a Celtics game once and I could from a pretty rough part of Saint Louis, so I have heard my fair share of bad language, but listening to KG during a game would make Richard Pryor uneasy.
The video above is from a May 2008 playoff game between the Cavs and Celtics. The TNT cameras clearly picks up Kevin Garnett saying “F*ckin F*ggots”.
Garnett’s fine for being insensitive to gay community?
$0
How about this video of KG cursing at at fan?
Or KG dropping the “N-Word”
Garnett fines for that?
$0
I just want people to be honest and not hypocrites. You can’t call Chris Bosh, “Bosh Spice” , then turn around and shake your finger at Kobe Bryant.
The facts are in this new age media world you simply can’t get away with anything. David Stern doesn’t care about what players say on the court he cares that Kobe Bryant’s actions are getting gay advocacy groups to send press releases to TMZ.
Just tell the truth, the reason Bryant was fined was for “good press” and that only, I bet when Bryant appeals the fine it will quietly by wiped off the books.
Don’t be sheep and don’t be hypocrites. Use your brain, it is a tool.
