Rather than be honored by the Oklahoma City Thunder, former NBA all star Shawn Kemp would prefer to remain honorable to the city of Seattle. Kemp recently disclosed that he declined an invite to game five of the Thunder’s first round series against the Denver Nuggets opting to stay true to his Supersonic roots.
“I live out here in Seattle. I carry the Sonics in my heart, for the
rest of my life. I have a problem rooting for Oklahoma, I just do.”
Kemp and Gary Payton combined to make the most exciting duo in the NBA during the mid 90’s leading the Sonics to the 1996 finals eventually losing to the 72-10 Chicago Bulls in six games. Kemp expressed that his loyalty is what led him to pass on the Thunder invite.
“It’s loyalty. I don’t think it’d be too smooth for the people ’round here to look up one day and see me sitting in the front row at the Oklahoma Thunder game.”
Never letting an opportunity to marvel at the feats of “the “Reignman”, here’s a refresher of Shawn Kemp the Supersonic. Apologies in advance if you’re reading this Alton Lister.
