I went back and watched all of Michael Vick’s games this season.
I can confidently say he isn’t the same Vick from his Atlanta days. Much more accurate, reads the defense 100x better & is a bit more selective about when he leaves the pocket.
What I do see is because of the offensive line issues he is skittish in the pocket. It is very similar to Jay Cutler. There is zero comfort level when he is dropping back.
He is using his feet to buy him some time, but that is why he is taking some unnecessary hits. He is also trying to hard to make the big play when he should just take the sack or throw the ball away.
While he can’t be absolved of all blame, from watching the Eagles he is low down on the list of their problems. He is playing Michael Vick football.
He is also on pace for a record breaking season.
Vick is on pace to do something no NFL player has ever done this season: Throw for 4,000 yards and run for 1,000 yards.
With 1,336 passing yards through five games, Vick is on pace for 4,275 passing yards on the season. That would be more than 1,000 yards better than Vick’s previous career high of 3,018, which he totaled last year.
And with 318 rushing yards through five games, Vick is on pace for 1,017 rushing yards on the season. Vick is already the only quarterback in NFL history to run for 1,000 yards in a season, and this year he has a good chance of doing it twice.
That is really amazing if you think about, but it is being overshadowed by the Eagles terrible start. If fans want to blame someone, don’t blame Vick, he is playing up to the money he is being paid, spread that blame around.
