Logically, I understand what Chuck is saying, but it doesn’t matter. The Mavs knew they were getting a mentally damaged Lamar Odom and took the risk.
They can only blame themselves.
NBA Mistress has the quote from Barkley.
“I like Lamar as a person, but I’m disappointed about everything that happened in Dallas. And it’s a shame that the Mavs got to pay him, to be honest with you. He don’t deserve to get paid for what he put out there this year. He doesn’t deserve it, plain and simple.”
Lamar wasn’t very professional about the situation and there should be some recourse for teams when players basically quit. Unfortunately there isn’t and on every team there is a player or two that is happy just collecting a check and doing the bare minimum required.
The Mavs did the right thing sending Lamar home, but next time the Lakers are giving away a player for basically nothing a team might want to ask themselves why before signing paperwork.
