Why is it when you are desperate for tickets to a huge event, you get really desperate and naive. Deadspin is reporting a truly wicked hoax played by a scammer with no heart, but who is blowing money fast tonight.
The story is that Sharon Osgood, a die-hard 49ers fan was searching for Super Bowl tickets, but frustrated by the fact she couldn’t find any.
Osgood eventually found a seller who was offering tickets for $5,900. The only problem, the seller’s ad was on Craigslist. Ms. Osgood said she communicated for a week with the gentleman seller, who said he was a Ravens season-ticket holder.
She then wired cash to his credit union. Of course the story goes down hill from there.
On Monday she got the package she was waiting for. Instead of sparkling Super Bowl tickets in the package, there inside was a picture of quarterbacks Colin Kaepernick and Joe Flacco with a message underneath that read: “Enjoy the game!!!! Go Ravens!!! LOL.”
The scam artist reportedly told Osgood and her boyfriend that he was a corporate tax attorney living in Boca Raton, Fla., and his wife was eight months pregnant.
His wife being pregnant obviously would have prevented him from attending the Super Bowl. Osgood was in decent spirits when some would have been crushed.
“For a week I was on the phone with this guy,” Osgood said. “That’s the only reason why we” trusted him.
Osgood is saying she and her boyfriend and two other family members still planned to travel to New Orleans. People I’ve never heard of anyone getting tickets to a huge event on Craigslist.
