The Atlanta Falcons need a pass rusher, and they seem to be on the cusp of signing one who calls the city home. Yahoo Sports is reporting that Osi Umenyiora is expected to sign with the Falcons in the next day or so.
“Atlanta is the place,” the source said.
The Falcons are looking for a pass rusher to replace John Abraham, and Umenyiora when he’s on his game, is one of the better pass rushers in the league.
As we reported yesterday, Umenyiora would love to be a Falcon, and hinted that he’d love to win a Super Bowl in Atlanta.
“There was nothing better than being able to win there [in New York],” Umenyiora said during a Friday appearance on 92.9 The Game in Atlanta, according to ESPN New York. “The only thing I can think of, for myself personally, [better] than being able to win in New York would be if I was able to win here at home in Atlanta. So we’ll see how that plays out. Hopefully, it will work out in a positive direction.”
The 31-year-old Umenyiora has spent his entire 10-year career with the New York Giants. In 129 career games with the Giants, Umenyiora has 75 sacks and 32 forced fumbles, posting double-digit sacks in 2005, 2007 and 2010.
Umenyiora was named to the Pro Bowl after the 2005 and 2017 seasons, and was a second-team All-Pro in 2010.
