After not signing a contract during the recent NFL free agent frenzy, Osi Umenyiora has decided to hit the campaign trail.
According to Ebenezer Samuel of the New York Daily News, the free agent pass-rusher told Jamie and Jerome Show on 92.9 The Game, that winning a Super Bowl in Atlanta, would top winning one in New York, which he did twice during his 10 seasons with the Giants.
“New York fans definitely expect a lot out of you because of their history,” Umenyiora said, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “There was nothing better than to be able to win there. The only thing I can think of that would be better than being able to win in New York would be to be able to win here in Atlanta. We’ll see how that plays out. Hopefully, it works out in a positive direction.”
Apparently, the Falcons are interested in securing the services of the 2-time Pro Bowler and resident of Atlanta. Umenyiora, thinks he can help bolster their defense and seems eager to get a deal done.
Still, Umenyiora said that “hopefully, things will work out,” and he added that the Falcons are “very good” on defense.
“The sky is the limit,” he said. “Defensively, they are very good . . . They have all the makings of a very good football team. They just need a couple of key pieces here and there and they’ll be OK.”
Do I think that Umenyiora believes winning a Super Bowl in Atlanta would be better than winning in New York? Absolutely not. Umenyiora is doing and saying anything that would aid him in his quest to get signed and I don’t knock him for it. As a matter of fact, I think he should consider a career in politics after he’s done playing.
