According to a story courtesy Dan Knobler of CBS Sports, Baltimore Orioles top pitching prospect Dylan Bundy, seems set to have elbow surgery after fighting off pain for months.
Bundy is visiting Dr. James Andrews on Wednesday, and the expectation is that he will need Tommy John surgery, according to sources. While Tommy John surgery is usually successful, the recovery time is about a year.
The Orioles shut Bundy down from throwing, and he got a PRP injection from Andrews in late April. But when Bundy began throwing again, he felt more pain in his elbow and was shut down. He was examined by an Orioles doctor on Tuesday in Baltimore.
Last season, Baseball America ranked Bundy as the second-best prospect in baseball and the 21-year-old was expected to pitch at some point this season for the Orioles but obviously that will now no longer happen.
