This week California passed historic legislation, becoming the first state to establish rights for transgender students from grades K-12. The new law allows transgender students to decide which bathroom or locker room they’d like to use, as well as, whether they’d like to play boys or girls sports.
Advocates for the new law say that it will improve bullying and discrimination, while opponents say that the passing could violate other students’ privacy.
Lawsuits by the opposition are already in the works.
