Police are searching for the people who covered the Pee Wee Reese and Jackie Robinson statue with swastikas and racial slurs outside Brooklyn Cyclones stadium in Coney Island. Below you can see a picture of the defaced statue with a worker working to clean it off.
Among the hate-filled messages written in black marker on the monument to Robinson and his Brooklyn Dodgers teammate Pee Wee Reese were: “Heil Hitler,” “Die n—-r,” “F–k n—-r” and “F–k Jackie Robinson.”
The Cyclones Director of Communications Billy Harner released a quick statement:
“The statue is a symbol of tolerance, It’s an absolute tragedy that someone would deface it the way they did.”
This is just awful. It is really is sickening that someone would do this. Given the recent news, it is just another reminder of the true state of race relations in this country.
