Celtics’ Jared Sullinger Suspended for Season Opener

Jared Sullinger

As if this season is not looking rough enough for the Boston Celtics, CBS Sports is reporting that forward Jared Sullinger has been suspended for the team’s season opener against the Toronto Raptors. The suspension comes from Sullinger’s involvement in a September 3rd incident involving domestic violence.

President of Basketball Operations Danny Ainge released a statement:

“Jared’s case was dismissed yesterday in Waltham District Court,” said Celtics President of Basketball Operations Danny Ainge. “While we are satisfied that this was the correct ruling, we are suspending Jared for one game because he failed to meet the high expectations we have for all Celtics employees.”

I think it is good for the Celtic’s public image that they took action against Sullinger. It sends a message to their young team that certain things will not be tolerated. Although Sullinger will only be suspended for one game I am interested to see how this affects a Celtics team who does not have Paul Pierce on their roster for the first time in 15 years and who will be starting the season without their floor leader Rajon Rondo. Add in a brand new NBA head coach Brad Stevens and the Celtics are off to a rough start.
