Dwight Freeney seems to be the latest statistic of pro-athletes who claim their financial advisors robbed them of their money. TMZ reports that the former NFL LB filed court documents Monday in California claiming that his ex-financial advisor Eva Weinberg lied to the FBI and prosecutor about her involvement in a scheme that took at least $2.2 million from him.
Weinberg’s partner, Michael Stern, pled guilty and was slapped with 5 years in prison along with having to return $2.5 million to Freeney, but Weinberg took a plea deal that gave her 36 months of probation, with 8 months being on house arrest. Freeney calls the sentence a “travesty of justice,” and is pleading with the judge to send Weinberg to prison.
Today is Weinberg’s sentencing hearing so either the judge will accept the plea deal or give Freeney the justice he feels he deserves.
