Three managers for the ages.
Tony La Russa, Bobby Cox and Joe Torre were voted into Cooperstown unanimously Monday morning by the Expansion Era committee.
The official induction will happen on July 27, in Cooperstown, NY, along with who the Baseball Writers Association of America inducts next month.
A quick rundown of these three extraordinary skipper’s resumes, is nothing short of brilliant.
Cox managed the Braves for 25 years, leading them to a World Series victory and 14 straight division titles. La Russa’s shining moment was during his tenure with the St Louis Cardinals, where he won the World Series in 2006 and 2011–also winning in 1989 while with Oakland. Then there’s Joe Torre, who managed the Yankees and led them to 4 World Series titles.
Just to sum up how big a deal the unanimous votes were, no one else on the ballot, not even Marvin Miller who revolutionized not only Baseball but sports in general, even got 6 votes.
Congratulations to them.
