Many fans and national pundits expected more from Andrew Wiggins, even his coach Bill Self wants more.
“I think he’s done well,” Self said. “I also think there’s another step he can take. He leaves me wanting more, so when people say certain things, I can’t be upset. I want more, too.”
Expectations were so high for the young Wiggins that it would have been impossible to meet expectations. Despite all of the criticism, Wiggins leads Kansas in scoring with 15.1 points a game to go along with 6 rebounds. He’s also shooting 43% from the field.
Coach Self wants Wiggins to understand that every opponent is trying to prove themselves against him.
“He’s so naive in so many ways,” Kansas coach Bill Self said. “I don’t think he thinks about the fact he’s everybody’s Super Bowl when they have a chance to play against him.
“We’ve told him, but I don’t think he’s felt that yet.”
The Kansas Jayhawks play TCU this Saturday. It’ll be interesting to see how Wiggins responds.
