Marcus Smart: Andrew Wiggins Earned My Respect

Some almost six months ago Oklahoma State point guard Marcus Smart told the world that Andrew Wiggins had to earn all the hype he was being given.

Now after watching Wiggins drop 30 points, while eliminating his team from the Big 12 tourney, Marcus Smart is singing a different tune.

Smart is now giving Wiggins a little R.E.S.P.E.C.T, and told the media after the game that Wiggins had finally earned his respect after that scentilating performance.

“Like I said, you’ve got to earn my respect,” Smart said. “You’ve got to go and take it, and he earned it tonight.”

Wiggins dropped 30 on the Cowboys all while shutting down Oklahoma State guard Markel Brown.  Brown scored 12 points on 5-of-13 shooting with just one three.

“He led his team to a Big 12 championship and came here as a freshman and did what he was supposed to do,” Smart said. “He didn’t get the Player of the Year, but he still is one of the biggest attributes in the Big 12. He’s one of the best players in the Big 12. I’ll give him credit. He earned my respect tonight.”
