The New Orleans Pelicans announced Thursday that All-Star Anthony Davis will sit the final four games of the season. CBS Sports reports that Davis is going to miss time due to back spasms.
Davis has missed 11 games already this season, but will sit the last four because of back spasms, the team announced Thursday. Davis will join Eric Gordon (left knee), who has already been ruled out for the rest of the season.
While back spasms is the official reason New Orleans is giving, most people see that injury report and take it to mean Davis is sitting so the Pelicans get better draft position.
New Orleans does have some motivation to lose as many games as they can down the stretch, as the Philadelphia 76ers own the Pelicans lottery pick unless it falls inside of the top 5.
For his part, Davis has had a breakout sophomore season. The Unibrow is averaging 21 points, 10 rebounds, 3 blocks and nearly 2 steals per game. The kid has superstar written all over him. It’s easy to understand why the Pelicans would shut Davis down and look towards next season when he is expected to be even better.
