The 49ers & Raiders Have Asked LAPD About Desean Jackson

desean

The Desean Jackson saga continues to dominate sports headlines. Most recently, there were reports that Jackson was about to sign with the Washington Redskins, with sources calling it a “done deal.”

When that didn’t materialize last night, new sources said that Jackson was still getting pitches from teams, and that the San Francisco 49ers called Desean during his dinner with the Redskins to schedule a visit of their own.

While the Redskins, Niners, Oakland Raiders, Buffalo Bills and even the Cleveland Browns all interested in signing the controversial receiver, teams are still guarded with their interest. In fact, according to NJ.com, the same site who published a story about the Eagles concerns with Desean’s gang ties, a few teams have reached out to the L.A.P.D. for information on Jackson. Yes, the LAPD, as in the Los Angeles Police Department.

The Washington Redskins are reportedly close to signing former Philadelphia Eagles receiver DeSean Jackson, and a law enforcement source told NJ.com on Tuesday that the club wasn’t among the NFL teams that reached out to Los Angeles Police Department after Jackson was connected to reputed gang members.

According to the source, the San Francisco 49ers and the Oakland Raiders have asked the LAPD about Friday’s NJ.com story. Jackson was cut less than an hour after the story was published.

While it seems pretty obvious that “concerns with gang-ties” is actually code for “not wanting to pay Desean Jackson,” you can’t fault teams for putting in their due diligence on the receiver. Especially with the price tag he is sure to command.

It will be interesting to see how this continues to play out over the coming hours and days. If the above reports are any indication, we should know where Desean Jackson will be playing wide receiver in the next few days.
