New Mexico State University offensive line coach Chris Symington has resigned after being cited twice for huffing air from a can. Symington was just hired on May 9 but he has much more to deal with now than improving the offensive line. From the Las Cruces Sun News:
Las Cruces police cited Chris Symington twice in a four-day span for huffing compressed air, the second incident unfolding Tuesday morning inside the bathroom of a Las Cruces drug store, according to a police report obtained by the Sun-News.
Symington and his wife told police Tuesday he’s suffering from an addiction and that they were returning to Pueblo, Colorado, to place Symington into rehab, the police report states.
NMSU head coach Doug Martin released a statement that said this:
“Right now our concern is for Chris’ health and helping him get better,” Martin said in the release. “Myself and the staff support coach Symington and will do everything we can to help him. His health is more important right now than the game of football.”
It really does sound like Symington has a real problem that needs to be addressed. I honestly have never heard of someone doing this so I don’t know what the punishment will be for him. Hopefully he gets the help he needs in Colorado during rehab because he certainly needs it after being caught in the bathroom doing this and slumped in his car.
