The amazing details surrounding Dez Bryant’s well chronicled $55,000 rookie dinner are starting to trickle out, and I can honestly see why Bryant was so mad if he truly did foot the bill all by himself.
Former Cowboys wide receiver Jesse Holley gave some insight to 105.3 The Fan, via the Dallas Morning News about just how expensive that meal really was.
“There’s one called the Louis XIII Rare Cask. They only have about 50 bottles in the world. Two of them were in Texas. One of them is in Houston and the other one was at Pappas Bros. For one shot, it was $1,300 dollars. It’s Cognac. They brought it out in this case where they had to push a button and it opened up illuminating. They had to serve it in white gloves.”
“We were ordering $90 Kobe beef steaks. I ordered two of those. I took one home and had steak and eggs for breakfast. Guys had lobster for appetizers. It got carried away. I’m not going to say who did it, but a couple older guys were ordering magnum bottles of Cristal and pouring it in flower pots. A lot of guys got like king size lobsters that were $120. We ordering stuff like that for appetizers. It was an all out feast.”
Holley went on to say that Bryant didn’t actually pay for that dinner all by himself, and it was actually spread out among all the rookies.
It seems Bryant will always have his version of events.
The reckless spending isn’t that hard to believe. Bryant had previously turned some Cowboys teammates off with his unwillingness to carry Roy Williams pads.
