ESPN has added a bit more information to the trade, which also includes a future pick heading to New York.
Sources told ESPN.com that the Mavericks, who immediately made reacquiring Chandler one of their priorities after their first-round exit to San Antonio, will soon complete a trade with the Knicks that they will clinch by agreeing to take back the contract of New York’s out-of-favor guard Raymond Felton as well.
The trade is expected to cost Dallas two starters — point guard Jose Calderon and center Samuel Dalembert — along with prized young point guard Shane Larkin, reserve guard Wayne Ellington and future second-round draft compensation.
This is an interesting deal for both teams. Dallas would be re-acquiring Chandler, who helped guide them to the 2011 NBA Title, as well as the often controversial Felton. In return the Knicks would receive a starting point guard they can depend on in Calderon and some length inside with Dalembert.
Larkin is a potential steal for the Knicks, as the former first-rounder is young and highly regarded. With no first-round picks in this Thursday’s draft, acquiring the former Miami point guard is a better move for New York than buying into the first round.
