World Series of Fighting is one of MMA’s youngest promotions but that isn’t stopping it from taking aim at the #2 spot behind the UFC in terms of promotional rank.
WSOF 12 wasn’t full of ex-UFC fighters or well known MMA names but it delivered quality MMA fights and introduced casual fans to a lot of new & talented fighters.
In the main event Luis Palomino entered the fight as the overwhelming favorite and ended the fight as the only conscious fighter in the cage.
From the opening bell palomino was all over his opponent Lewis Gonzalez. Gonzalez did a good job mixing things up for a few minutes but Palomino began to time his movements around the 2:00 mark of the 1st round and from that point on it was like target practice.
Gonzalez was first in trouble after a strong right by Palomino had him up against the cage but he was able to withstand that barrage and land a nice judo-style takedown. Palomino quickly escaped the side mount of Gonzalez and went back on the offensive. a leg kick/head kick combo with a minute left in the 1st round was the finisher for Palomino. He timed the attack perfectly and his knee landed on the temple of Gonzalez.
Palomino will now set his sights on the Lightweight title and with his aggressive style there’s no down side of having him in another main event. It guarantees an exciting fight and it will most likely end in a finish whether it’s in favor of Palomino or not.
