The Cowboys defense hasn’t proven to be effective during the preseason, and now they start the regular season missing CB Orlando Scandrick after Scandrick was busted by the NFL for popping molly. The next viable option is Morris Claiborne, whose NFL career has been more about injuries and ineffective play.
Jason Garrett is saying all the right things about Claiborne and making it clear that he thinks the Cowboys secondary will be fine when Claiborne steps in the helm. However, defensive coordinator, Rod Marinelli seems to have a different opinion.
“Well, he’s there,” Marinelli said, via ESPNDallas.com. “He’s our starting corner. That’s the confidence. He’s gotta go do it.”
This isn’t exactly the best vote of confidence that Claiborne might be looking for, and maybe Marinelli didn’t mean it the way it was conveyed. Either way, Claiborne is it for the Cowboys. We will see him become the corner that the Cowboys were hoping he’d be when they drafted him, or he will just be “there” as Marinelli says.
