Kevin Martin was fined $15k for doing the infamous Sam Cassell ‘big balls’ dance. Timberwolves head coach Flip Saunders is all too familiar with this celebration.
“We lost a championship by that,” Saunders said. “When [Cassell] did that he had an avulsion fracture in his hip. … So, from that perspective, I’ve always been against that type of thing.”
Saunders is referring to the 2004 playoffs, when Minnesota defeated the Sacramento Kings in game 7 to advance to the Western Conference Finals. Cassell hit a big shot in that game 7, which provoked his dance to ensue.
That 2004 Minnesota squad featured Kevin Garnett, Latrell Sprewell and Sam Cassell.
