Conan O’ Brien is no stranger to traveling in the name of his late-night talk show on TBS but he’s pulled off one big splash with this latest trip. While he missed Saturday Night Live’s 40th Anniversary special, he was out of the country. The March 4th episode of Conan will feature segments he shot this weekend in Havana, Cuba.
“The episode is intended to give O’Brien’s audience a rare glimpse into Cuban daily life,” said an announcement by TBS. An American talk show hasn’t been in Cuba since 1959 when Jack Paar took the Tonight Show to interview Fidel Castro. The same Fidel that remains 56 years later. Conan doesn’t shoot on holidays so he took the time to travel over during the long weekend. With relations between Cuba and the US improving, this will surely bring more production to film in Cuba. Not much else is known of the episode so I guess we are going to have to tune in to find out what the Celtic Warrior did on the island to represent America. Surely something shameful, right? Maybe an “in the year 2000” sketch since they’re stuck back in time in Cuba.
