Denver Nuggets guard Ty Lawson is having a solid 2015 season on the floor, however his repeated incidents off of it seem to be showing signs of wearing on the organization.
Most recently, Lawson missed the Nuggets’ first game back post all-star break (reportedly after missing a practice earlier that week), and, in January was arrested on suspicion of DUI after being busted doing 65 in a 30 mph zone.
Although Lawson is probably Denver’s best player, his act has gotten old to Nuggets general manager Tim Connelly. With his team most likely missing the playoffs, Connelly told the Denver Post it was time to take a serious look at Lawson, and the Nuggets as a whole. Here’s his statement via the Denver Post’s Nicki Jhabvala:
“He needs to grow up. The organization, top to bottom, can’t be anymore supportive,” Connelly said. “It’s time for not just Ty but for several of our guys to be pros or it’s time to take a hard look at our roster.”
The Nuggets already traded Arron Afflalo, Alonzo Gee, and Javale McGee last week, and they sent C Timofey Mozgov to the Cavs in January. If Lawson doesn’t change his ways in a hurry; he could be next out of Denver, which I’m not sure he would mind. Hey, who knows? A change of scenery could be good for all parties involved.
