The Pittsburgh Pirates are assuming you’ve seen the picture of newly-identified ‘Jihadi John’, real name Mohammed Emwazi, and they want you to know that even though he’s sporting their colors; they don’t identify in any way with the alleged ISIS murderer
When the first known photo of Emwazi was released to the American Public via Sky News, the Pirates reached out to the public to distance themselves and their logo from the situation:
The Pirates said in a statement that it was sickening to everyone in the organization “to see this murderer wearing a Pirates cap in this old photo.” The team says the gold “P” stands for Pittsburgh and is worn by players, coaches and fans with pride.
Kudos to the Pirates P.R. department for being on top of things. Definitely not the type of viral publicity they’re looking for.
