Middle school can be a very cruel place, and even crueler to children with disabilities. That’s what makes this story so important.
Meet Desiree Andrews–a cheerleader at Lincoln Middle school in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Desiree has Down syndrome, however, despite this she still enjoys participating with the rest of her cheer squad in rooting her school’s team on. So you can imagine her uncomfortable position when a small section of immature students began to tease her from the stands, loud enough to get the attention of the kids playing on the court.
That’s when the story takes a positive turn for the better.
Three players in particular, Miles Rodriguez, Scooter Terrien and Chase Vazquez; immediately walked off the court, DURING PLAY, to check the parties responsible for the teasing. Here is the report from WTMJ-TV:
