Let me say that I was riding with this HBO Robert Durst documentary, The Jinx from the get. Having murders and a disappearance surrounding an eccentric millionaire real estate developer like Robert Durst is an intriguing story on its own. Actually getting to follow said eccentric millionaire real estate developer and even have him sit down and answer questions about the murders and disappearance is mind blowing. Especially when the disappearance of his wife in the early 80’s and the murder of his close female friend in LA are still open cases. Durst even mentioned hpw his lawyer advised him not to do the interviews since they could only hurt him. Well he should have listened. At one point after being confronted by Andrew Jarecki, the man behind the film, in an interview with some surprise evidence connecting his handwriting to the LA murder, Durst was visibly shaken. This is what compelling television is. The Jinx ended on a chilling note. After the interview, Durst went to the bathroom and forgot that his microphone was still hot. Watch the video.
Roll credits in dramatic fashion. Here is what he said while mic’d up.
“There it is. You’re caught. You’re right, of course. But you can’t imagine. Arrest him. I don’t know what’s in the house. Oh, I want this. What a disaster. He was right. I was wrong. And the burping. I’m having difficulty with the question. What the hell did I do? Killed them all, of course.”
Durst is 71-years old so how much of this is gibberish and will this be considered an admission? What do you think?
