Well, this isn’t how the Spartans envisioned beginning the 2015 season.
Michigan State suspended running back Delton Williams indefinitely from team-related activities after he was arrested on a gun charge, reports the Lansing State Journal.
The 21-year-old Williams was charged with brandishing a firearm in public after being involved in an incident Monday night on the Michigan State campus.
Williams faces up to 90 days in jail and a $100 fine on the misdemeanor charge. His bond was set at $500.
According to the Michigan State University police department, Williams was driving when he cut in front of another driver. Williams “displayed a weapon,” for which he has a concealed weapons permit, at the other driver but did not point it at the driver.
University spokesman Jason Cody told MLive.com that any student who violates the school’s policy on carrying weapons on school grounds could face suspension or expulsion, among other penalties.
The worst part about this is the fact that Williams HAS the gun knowledge. Receiving your license to carry a concealed weapon in Michigan is far from an easy task. The young man had to complete applications and go through a process in which I’m sure they very carefully spelled it out for him where exactly his gun is and is not allowed.
Credit to the man for jumping through the hoops and doing it the legal way while many people in this country skirt the law. But c’mon, man… Flashing your gun on school grounds, over what, some road rage? Next time, keep it tucked homie.
Willliams is entering his Junior season and will by vying for the starting RB position. Hopefully the impending punishment won’t hurt his stock too much…
We’ll keep you updated when/if a return date for Mr. Williams is announced.
