Despite being fired in December due to his Sacramento Kings under performing, Michael Malone has remained a valued candidate for coaching vacancies around the league.
HoopsRumors reports,
Malone has seemingly been a hot commodity since the Kings fired him in December. Orlando has been expected to consider him, and he’s been linked to the Nuggets opening. Wolves coach/executive Flip Saunders organized a meeting between Malone and owner Glen Taylor earlier this year, according to Darren Wolfson of 1500 ESPN Twin Cities, and Malone has spent time with the Wolves in an informal capacity on at least three different occasions this season.
Now, a reporter from the Orlando Sentinel is stating that Malone “would love to coach” the Magic.
Yes, I'm told that former Sacramento Kings coach Michael Malone "would love to coach" the Orlando Magic.
— Brian K. Schmitz (@MagicInsider) April 15, 2015
A young head coach with a bright mind is invaluable to a growing organization, just ask the Boston Celtics. This reporter has an idealized plan laid down for Orlando that would be great for the city if it came true.
Schmitz advises the Magic to jump on Malone, draft Willie Cauley-Stein and float a max offer sheet to restricted free agent Draymond Green.
Unfortunately, dreams don’t always come true, Mr. Schmitz. They may be able to sign Mike Malone and figure out a way to draft WCS, but I find it highly unlikely that any free agent of Draymond Green’s caliber would want to bring his talents to Orlando.
Anyway, Michael Malone doesn’t sound like he will be out of a job for very long. Stay tuned, folks.
