Freddie Roach is busy prepping Manny Pacquiao for the biggest fight of his career and so far his main priority is making sure Manny treats it like just another fight.
Top Rank publicist Fred Sternberg told the New Standard/BoxingScene that Pacquiao ran at the Pan Pacific park in the morning and described it as “a good run and fast-paced.”
He allayed fears that Pacquiao was tired or under the weather because it was raining in Los Angeles and said Roach was genuinely concerned that Pacquiao was likely to overtrain and “wants to hold him back.”
Sternberg said “Freddie doesn’t want him to leave the fight in the gym.”
Pacquiao’s calf cramps have been widely reported and it is improtant for Roach to save Manny’s legs for the May 2nd fight. With only 3 weeks to go in training it is important that Manny focus on sparring but not get overwhelmed by the magnitude of facing Floyd. Every day of training can’t be at 100% and every sparring partner can’t be Mayweather.
The only time Manny has to go 100% is on fight night and Freddie knows that.
