Florida Supercon is coming to Miami, FL this weekend and the convention is bringing with them your comic book, anime, animation, video game, sci-fi, and pop-culture fix. The event is the biggest comic con in South Florida and should not disappoint this year. The Florida Supercon is being held in the Miami Beach Convention Center this year for the second year in a row after running out of parking at smaller venues year before. Miami Beach is the most logical destination for any kind of big event like this. When you think from the perspective of the world outside of Miami, the biggest landmark for them is Miami Beach. When Lebron James made his decision in 2010, he said he was taking his talents to South Beach, not the Miami Heat. So of course if you want to make Florida Supercon a destination event. Fly in for the weekend and enjoy the sun, sand, beaches, and geeks. That’s right, you throw the biggest geek party and put it in Miami Beach. The move was a genius move as the attendance is expected to continue to grow as it has since it’s inception. Mike Broder is the man behind Florida Supercon and when he pushed for the event to happen here in the South Florida area, people told him it wouldn’t work because people here didn’t care about that kind of stuff. Broder didn’t believe that an in 2006 the very first Supercon pulled in 1,500 people. Now, Florida Supercon is holding their 10th Annual Event this year. Last year, their first year in Miami Beach, the Florida Supercon had an attendance of over 40,000. Now that may still be a far cry from Orlando’s Mega Con but that convention has been going for twenty-two years. Florida Supercon can legitimately be in the same breathe and they see no signs of things slowing down. Mike Broder started this with a dream and in ten years Florida Supercon is already a huge success. We will be attending Florida Supercon for the first time this year and hope to bring you some great stuff. Check out the commercial.
Florida Supercon will have a slew of wonderful guests this year. There are WWE stars like Daniel Bryan, Kane, Ron Simmons, Paige, Jerry Lawler, John Bradshaw Layfield, and more.
We have actors from all of our comic book favorites like Hayley Atwell, Karen Gillan, Brett Dalton, Matt Nable, Manu Bennett, Maximiliano Hernandez (no relation…that I know of), and some Star Wars/Star Trek favorites like Billy Dee Williams, Robin Curtis, Walter Koenig, Peter Mayhew, Nichelle Nichols, and more.
This is just a the tip of the iceberg people. I mean we also have a handful of actors from The Walking Dead, Power Rangers, comic book writers, Spongebob Squarepants, voices from Sailor Moon, and we even have THE Last Dragon Leroy Green, Taimak.
This is of course not all the fun going on. There will be cosplayers galore with costume contests all event long. There will be plenty of workshops on zombie makeup, how to cosplay, novelist tips, and other great crafts. There will also be panels and photo-ops with the guests. Florida Supercon is also throwing some film festivals at us and video game areas. There is so much to do that I don’t know where to start. Anyone in the Miami or Broward area check out the event and have yourself a great time.
