Without a doubt, the 2012 draft class for the Seattle Seahawks was a game changer, literally. Drafting DE Bruce Irvin in the 1st round, then selecting All-Pro Linebacker Bobby Wagner in the 2nd and adding their franchise quarterback in the 3rd with Russell Wilson, the Seahawks added pieces that would eventually lead them to winning a super bowl.
Now the Seahawks face a few problems when it comes to re-signing them all. Richard Sherman was drafted in 2011 and just became the richest CB in the league with a monster contract last summer. The Seahawks have already expressed that they would not be working on a new deal for Bruce Irvin at the moment so that leaves Wilson and Wagner to work out a deal.
Wilson and the Seahawks have been moving very slow in their process of an extension, and have been in talks since March with little being agreed on. So they have moved on to their next target, Bobby Wagner.
Ian Rapoport reported it first that the talks had begun between the phenomenal linebacker and the team.
Wagner is the defensive leader for the Seahawks and it’s imperative that the Seahawks get him re-signed. Wagner will make just under 1 million in his final year of his contract and is worth way more, and should get it.
Wagner has 364 tackles, 9 sacks and 5 INTs and a touchdown in his 3 NFL seasons, and missed 6 games last season with an injury.
Sadly for the Seahawks, the contracts of Wilson and Wagner are closely tied together, seeing that they are both the leaders on their side of the ball. If no contract is worked out between Wagner, nor Wilson, then the Seahawks could be put in a situation similar to Dallas. Dallas had to franchise tag Dez Bryant, and was unable to offer Demarco Murray the money he wanted, so he walked.
One thing is for sure, the Seahawks cannot afford to lose either of the players.
